Martin Sharp (1942-2013)

Jimi Hendrix, 2013

screenprint on paper, inscribed verso with dedication to Jim Sharman from Martin Sharp

Art & Music Go POP.
Martin Sharp best captured the collision of art and music known as POP with his explosive image of guitarist Jimi Hendrix. I gifted the original polymer artwork to the NGA. Martin later re-worked the image, correcting Jimi Hendrix’s guitar swoop to his left-hand (Hendrix was left-handed). A late gift from Martin, the lithograph was accompanied by a sweet note on the back – from an old friend, a master of surreal pop art and a true Wizard of Oz.
