Scottish Provincial Perth Sauce Ladle c. 1820

with fiddle pattern, engraved with initials DM, Robert Keay, Perth

Notes: It is interesting to note that Joseph Forrester (1805-1860) was an apprentice (together with his brother William) to Robert Keay of Perth. By 1825, following their apprenticeships they were working in London. Joseph apparently had a drink problem (well evidenced later in Tasmania) which led to theft and transportation to Tasmania. He arrived in Hobart in 1829 and was assigned to David Barclay. In 1825 Robert Keay entered a partnership and joint mark (R & R Keay) with his nephew Robert who had been apprenticed to him.
